Engineering and Natural-Science Studies Support Project

The wide-ranging popularization project titled “Engineering and Natural-Science Studies National Support – Individual Project,” managed by the Ministry of Education, for which Česká hlava is the regional co-ordinator in the Liberec region, in Central Bohemia, and in Prague, aims mainly at implementing a marketing support system for engineering and natural-science studies at universities. The project activities are divided into three pillars: “Motivation Activities,” “Communicating Science,” and “Support to Teaching”; these target, both directly and indirectly, potential candidates for university studies. The Project’s outcomes should include a methodology for natural-science and engineering education support, marketing materials, analyses, and case studies that will be presented through congresses, seminars, workshops, popularization lectures, and, above all, pilot motivation activities in all Czech regions. The Project seeks to respond to an ever-more evident pan-European shortage of natural-science- and engineering-oriented specialists. Its design integrates sustainability concerns.

The Project targets potential study candidates and students in the engineering and natural-science fields. These are mostly young people about to decide on their future professional orientation.

The Czech Republic and the EU as a whole have been struggling with an ever-increasing shortage of university-educated specialists in the engineering and natural-science fields. This is apparent not only through a decrease in the number of candidates who wish to study at the relevant faculties, but also through an imbalance on the labour market and in companies, where the shortage of engineering and natural-science-educated specialists is becoming a permanent threat.

Česká hlava has been organizing activities to support scientific and engineering intelligence, mainly to popularize science and technology, for eight years. This is why it joined the Project and became co-ordinator for three regions – Prague, Central Bohemia, and Liberec.

The operation is carried out within a project titled “Engineering and Natural-Science Fields National Support – Individual Project” managed by the Ministry of Education, for which Česká hlava is the regional co-ordinator in the Liberec region, in Central Bohemia, and in Prague.
